Dear Younger Fred… one day you'll realize you are an adult in the room…
It won't happen all at once.
There won't be some dramatic moment where life suddenly announces:
"You're grown up now."
It happens quietly.
Gradually.
Almost without noticing.
One day, younger colleagues will start asking for your advice.
Your parents will begin calling you differently.
People will look to you when decisions need to be made.
And somehow… without realizing it…
you became the person others depend on.
That realization will feel strange.
Because in your own mind, part of you still feels 25.
Still figuring things out.
Still learning.
Still wondering if you truly know what you're doing.
But life keeps moving.
And one day you'll catch yourself doing something that makes it all hit at once.
You'll be holding your kids...
Paying bills.
Planning the future.
Thinking about your parents aging.
Managing responsibilities people can't fully see.
And for a brief moment, you'll think:
"When did this happen?"
Because growing older feels very different than you imagined.
When you were younger, adulthood looked like certainty.
Confidence.
Clarity.
Stability.
But what you eventually realize is…
most adults are still learning as they go.
Still adapting.
Still carrying doubts.
Still hoping they're making the right decisions for the people they love.
The only difference is…
they've learned how to carry uncertainty more calmly.
And maybe that's what maturity actually is.
Not having everything figured out…
but continuing to move forward anyway.
Younger Fred… one day you'll realize strength isn't becoming fearless.
It's becoming dependable while still being human.
And strangely…
that version of you will be someone younger you would have looked up to.
Even if you still don't fully see it yourself.
Baaaaam — that's it for today.
See you next Thursday.
Stay curious,
Fred
