But one day, the days that feel completely normal will be the ones you miss the most.
Today was busy...
Back-to-back meetings...
A client lunch...
And a drive across town to pick up a package.
One of those days where you're just trying to get everything done. 😅
Then, at the end of the day, I was holding Matthias while he got his haircut.
The blow dryer came on...
And we started pretending it was a HUGE gust of wind blowing us away. 😂
So I grabbed onto him like we were both about to fly right out of the chair.
And he absolutely lost it.
That deep belly laugh...
The uncontrollable kind...
The kind that makes you laugh even harder just because they're laughing.
For a few minutes, the whole world disappeared.
For a few minutes, nothing else mattered.
No emails.
No meetings.
No to-do list.
Just a dad being silly with his son. ❤️
Honestly, it would've been easy to miss that moment.
I could've been checking my phone...
Thinking about tomorrow...
Focused on the next thing.
But instead, I got to be fully there.
And as I sat there, I realized something...
Younger Fred, you're going to spend a lot of your life waiting for the grand moments.
The promotions...
The vacations...
The milestones...
But one day you'll realize that the moments that shaped your life were rarely those ones.
Life was happening in the little moments, too.
The haircuts.
The car rides.
The family dinners.
The random laughs.
The "boring moments" as you'd probably call them while they were happening.
Because one day you'll look back and understand...
These weren't just ordinary days.
These WERE the good old days.
You just couldn't see it yet.
And that's the hardest part.
You usually don't know you're living the good old days until they've already passed.
So now that you know, Fred...
Put down the phone.
Hold onto Matthias a little tighter.
Laugh a little longer.
Be fully present for the people you love.
Because one day, you'd give anything to sit in that barber chair together just one more time. ❤️
