Your Progress Will Feel Slower Than You Hoped

Your Progress Will Feel Slower Than You Hoped

Dear Younger Fred… your progress will feel slower than you hoped…

Here's a photo of you 10 years ago… right before you moved into Wealth Management to become a Financial Planner.

Early in your career, you'll expect progress to feel obvious.

Work hard → move forward.

More clients.
More growth.
More opportunity.

But the reality won't feel so linear.

Some seasons will feel like momentum.
Others will feel like nothing is happening at all.

You'll watch peers move ahead.

Promotions.
New roles.
New opportunities.

And quietly… you'll wonder:
"Am I doing something wrong?"

Remember that time you stayed in the same position for four years…

Four years.

At the time, it felt like a lifetime.

Especially when people around you were progressing faster.

You started to feel stuck.

Restless.

FOMO kicking in...

Questioning whether you were falling behind.

Eventually, you reached a point where you told yourself: "I need a change."

You even said:

"I'm willing to move to another city if that's what it takes."

Because staying still began to feel heavier than taking a risk.

But looking back, something becomes clear.

While you felt like nothing was happening…
everything was happening.

Leaders were paying attention.

Clients were building trust in you.

Your judgment was developing.

Your confidence was becoming more grounded.

It just wasn't visible yet.

Because in advice-based careers… growth compounds quietly.

Trust builds slowly.
Credibility builds slowly.
Depth builds slowly.

And depth is what lasts.

When the opportunity finally came… it felt sudden.
But it wasn't sudden.

It was built during the seasons when you felt overlooked.

In the effort nobody measured.
In the consistency nobody noticed.

Younger Fred… the early years feel slow because they are supposed to.

Strong foundations take time.

And when they're ready…
things can change faster than you expect.

So if things feel quiet right now…

it doesn't mean nothing is happening.
It may mean something important is developing...

Baaaaam — that's it for today.
See you next Thursday.

Stay curious,
Fred
